Explore and enjoy Marbella and Puerto Banus

Although El Presidente is an extremely tranquil and beautiful beach-side environment with many excellent bars, restaurants and an ALDI supermarket within walking distance, it is great to be able to explore and enjoy our local area too. A short five minute drive away is the vibrant and cosmopolitan Puerto Banus with its wonderful Marina, sandy beaches, up-market shopping and huge variety of bars and restaurants. The lovely local town of San Pedro de Alcántara is also very close and its pedestrianised main street is full of charm, artisan shops, bars and restaurants that give a true taste of Spanish culture and sociability.

Five minutes further away is Marbella with its fabulous marble promenade, wonderful town and sandy beach (Estepona is also about 10 minutes from El Presidente and similarly offers a tremendous range of pleasures and delights!).

Once it was just a fishing village but now Marbella is known as “the Pearl of the Costa del Sol” with its cosmopolitan population, international visitors and reputation for being one of the Coast's most aristocratic resorts.

Here you have the beautiful Casco Antiguo (old town) with the Plaza de Naranjos (Orange Square, shown below) at its centre. Narrow white-washed pedestrianised streets feed off from it, bedecked with colourful and fragrant flowers, offering a wonderful chance to explore the hidden delights of Marbella as you come upon attractive courtyards, the walls of the old Moorish castle and beautiful churches set in picturesque squares. Also along these narrow lanes in Marbella's “Casco Antiguo” are numerous shops offering artisan gifts, designer clothes and so much more for both tourists and the local residents of Marbella.

Relaxing on the beach ....
Then, when you feel the need to relax, you can choose from one of the old town's many outdoor restaurants, shady cafés or tapas bars for a reviving drink, tasty snack or freshly prepared meal.

Adjacent to Marbella's old town is the newer commercial area with the main thoroughfare of the Avda. Ricardo Soriano containing many internationally known shops, as well as branches of all the major banks. Larger shopping centres, such as La Cañada, with even more retail shops, are to be found just outside of Marbella and in Puerto Banus.

There are also a number of beautiful and tree lined parks, such as the Parque de Constitución, where outdoor summer concerts and children's theatrical productions are put on.

Marbella's sandy beach and beautiful promenade are also full of great chiringuitos, bars and restaurants. Following a day of relaxation on the beach, regularly cooling off in the clear Mediterranean waters, this is where locals and visitors, often accompanied by their families, will stroll throughout the evening, savouring the abundant variety of sights, sounds, smells and tastes that are on offer.

Indeed because of the nearby mountains that protect Marbella from the cold winds of the north, we are able to benefit from a a very special micro-climate that gives us milder winters and slightly cooler summer nights than Malaga and the rest of the Costa del Sol receive. Consequently we are able to enjoy the out-door life of Marbella throughout the year without suffering from either the freezing cold or sweltering and unbearable heat experienced elsewhere in Europe! This is definitely a major advantage!!

Go for a walk or a drive in the beautiful surrounding countryside and have an incredibly tasty and cheap home-cooked lunch in a local road-side "Venta" (country restaurant), especially during the winter months.
