Visitor
Guide - Selwo Aventura
Located
just a couple of miles along the coastal road heading towards Estepona
from Marbella and Puerto Banus, and a short distance from our rental
apartments in El Presidente, is the spectacular Selwo Wildlife Adventure
Park, Selwo Aventura. Here you will find more
than 2000 animals
from every
continent
living
in
semi-free
conditions on the one million square metre site.
Selwo
Aventura is open daily through to December 9th 2007.
The opening hours from
Monday to Friday are from 10.00 to 18.00 and on Saturday and Sunday
from 10.00 to 19.00. In July and August the closing time is extended
to 20.00. Entrance prices are shown below. |
 |
 |
| To
the left is a view of the luxuriant and extensive lake-side gardens
in Selwo that lead to the Masai-style village huts and the largest
walk through aviary in Europe with over 1000 birds of different
species
living in a vast and enclosed valley. |

The huge lake,
provides a lovely focal-point for
the Selwo park. |
 |
 |
To
the left are some of the flamingoes in one of the large enclosures,
including some with monkeys and crocodiles, which are to be found
to the right of the entrance area to Selwo Aventura.
These
lead to the starting point for the trucks that can take you up
to
the first stage where there is a large outdoor enclosure for
bengal tigers and a cave full of bats! From
there another truck
will
transport
you through the valleys and hill-sides to the top of the
site where there is a restaurant with spectacular panoramic views.
The
trucks take you on a journey passing through many separate
and "geographically
designated" areas
in which there are a wide variety of animals such
as elephants, bison, antelopes, bears, tigers, giraffes
and rhinoceroses, many of which are able to roam in relative
freedom. They depart at regular intervals throughout the day
although
in the high season there can be long queues during the
peak periods.
Alternatively you can walk along the paths, crossing the
foot and rope-bridges, providing opportunities to view
the animals
at a more leisurely pace.
Whilst
this is indeed a lovely way to explore Selwo it is advisable
to have appropriate footwear, to bring drinks and to protect
yourself from the sun. Also think carefully about whether
it might become just too much effort for very young children
or the parents that might have to end up carrying them!

When
you get there you have the option of either buying a single ticket
just for entry to the Selwo wild life/adventure park. The current
entrance price is 22.20 euros for adults and 15.50 euros for
children aged 3 to 7 and senior citizens. Children
under the age of 2 are free.
A
good alternative would be for you
to purchase a combined ticket for Selwo Aventura and Selwo
Marina as well
as
the Telecabina and consequently make a saving of 40%. As all three are worth
visiting (the latter can also be combined with a separate visit
to Tivoli World
as they
are
next to each other) it is at least worth considering. The current
price for this combined ticket is 31 euros for adults and 22
euros
for children aged 3 to 7. |
